The photo shows USATC № 8446 with the 743rd Railway Operating Battalion. Don Murphy, the maker of this photo, noted the following on the back: "One of our diesels and a bunch of our fellows. The engines are now painted black. A couple of them were on a ship that was abandoned then floated again . Over 5 months and full of salt when we got them but we put them in running order."
